Our Journey

In 2011 our Leader In Me journey began when our school counselor, Sherry Swindler, attended a conference and heard about the remarkable things that were going on in a Leader In Me School in our state.  Mrs. Swindler was extremely excited about the possibilities of LME teaching our students true leadership.  She shared her passion with Mrs. Mack who had also heard of the wonderful things happening in schools throughout the country that were using the Leader In Me principles.

During the 2012-2013 school year, Mrs. Swindler and the Related Arts department read Stephen Covey's "The Leader in Me" that is based off of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People."  The excitement of the Related Arts department was shared with Mrs. Mack, who organized a faculty book study of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and "The Leader in Me" during the 2013-2014 school.

Because of the excitement that was built within the faculty of staff, during the 2014-2015 school year, many of our faculty and staff members visited Leader In Me schools and the Leader In Me Symposium.  Little Mountain Elementary joined with Franklin Covey and officially became a Leader In Me School in 2015.

Our work is evidence that school improvement is not the result of one person's vision.  In its truest form, our school improvement efforts have shown the power of teacher leadership and administration having a shared purpose and vision. Little Mountain Elementary becoming a Leader in Me school is the collective responsibility and continuing endeavor of an entire staff who is committed to personal change, professional growth, and motivating students and their families toward a better, brighter future where everyone can demonstrate their unique leadership skills!
